The Chicago Bears are heading into the NFL looking to have an aggressive approach once again. After making a lot of additions last offseason, the Bears aren’t likely to stop now.
Already, the Bears have made a major change. Chicago made the move to fire head coach Matt Eberflus and replace him with former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. That move alone has improved the team.
Now, the roster needs to be improved. There are quite a few areas that the Bears could target that improvement.
One potential need heading into the offseason will be finding an upgrade at running back. Bringing in a workhorse style back who could help take a lot of pressure off of Caleb Williams would be a big key.
Chicago Bears Linked to Major Browns Star in 2025 NFL Free Agency
Mike Pendleton of Bears Wire has connected the Chicago Bears to Cleveland Browns free agent running back Nick Chubb.
“Injuries have been the biggest fallback in Nick Chubb’s career, and it could hurt how much he gets paid on the open market in free agency,” Pendleton wrote.
“Limited to less than half the season last year, Chubb didn’t produce to the level he is accustomed to, but he showed he can get back to the field after a devastating knee injury. If the Bears pursued Chubb, it would reunite him with Swift as the two were college teammates at Georgia. He’s a powerful, punishing back that would compliment Swift’s speed and elusiveness.”
Obviously, there would be some risk for the Chicago Bears in signing Chubb. He played in eight games during the 2024 NFL season after coming back from a gruesome knee injury, but he didn’t look good.
When all was said and done, Chubb ended up carrying the football 102 times for 332 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged just 3.3 yards per carry.
There is a chance that Chubb may never get back to the player who he was before the injury. That being said, the Bears should still consider taking a gamble on him.
If there is any chance that Chubb can bounce back stronger in 2025 and be closer to the players that he was before the injury, he would be a massive impact piece and would take the Chicago offense to the next level.
