The Chicago Bears drastically improved their offensive line during free agency following their struggles in 2024. Chicago acquired left guard Joe Thuney and left guard-turned-right guard Jonah Jackson and signed center Drew Dalman. However, despite adding three high-quality offensive linemen, the Bears could add more players to their interior since Thuney is up there in age, Jackson’s recent injury history, and their backups outside Ryan Bates are weak.

Chicago Bears hosting underrated SEC offensive lineman

According to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, the Bears are hosting former Georgia Bulldogs guard Dylan Fairchild for a Top-30 visit on Wednesday. He is an underrated interior offensive lineman who hasn’t received a lot of attention during the draft cycle. Some scouts have him as a Day 2 pick, while others have him selected on Day 3.

He had a solid finish to his collegiate career

Dylan Fairchild committed to the Georgia Bulldogs as a four-star recruit for the 2021 season. After barely playing during his true freshman and redshirt freshman seasons, Fairchild took over as a starter in each of his last two seasons, starting 24 of 28 games. He started ten of 14 games at left guard in 2023 while also seeing time at right guard.
Fairchild had a solid 2024 season, taking over as the full-time left guard, earning him a Second Team All-SEC and a Second Team All-American. He gave up nine pressures, seven hurries, one QB hit, and one sack in 14 starts. He also posted an 87.0 pass-blocking, a 71.8 run-blocking, and a 74.6 overall PFF grade.
Here’s Lance Zierlein‘s scouting report on Dylan Fairchild

“Two-year starter who will offer more with his pass protection than his run blocking. Fairchild plays with quick hands and adequate athleticism as a move blocker.
“He’s big but struggles to push opponents and sustain blocks at the point of attack and wasn’t enough of a difference-maker for the run game. He’s steady in protection with decent range and active hands.
“He’s athletic enough to recover against counters but could have issues when matched against a good bull rush. Fairchild could go in the middle rounds and eventually become a starter.”
Zierlein projects that Fairchild will become an average backup or special teamer.
