The Chicago Bears lost in heartbreaking fashion once again to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, dropping their season record to 4-8. The Bears started 2024 off with a 4-2 record and had playoff aspirations but have dropped their last six games. Head coach Matt Eberflus has been on the hot seat because of the team’s struggles, and that seat just got hotter after today’s meltdown.
Chicago Bears Final Drive
Quarterback Caleb Williams and the Bears’ offense were driving the ball down the field late in the fourth quarter, looking like they would send the game to overtime with a field goal or even come away with the win. However, with 34 seconds on the clock, Williams and the offense failed to get a play off in time to set up a field goal despite having a timeout at their disposal.
Matt Eberflus Responds
As a result, Chicago did not have any time to make anything happen, and Eberflus has been getting a ton of hate from Bears fans. To make things worse, the head coach said this in the post-game press conference when asked, “In retrospect, how should you have handled the final sequence?”

After giving this response to the reporter, NFL fans are calling him ‘incompetent’ and are calling for him to no longer be the head coach. With five more games for the team to play this season, it is looking more and more likely that Chicago will fire Eberflus before the year ends.
