Football scouting is not an exact science. That’s why even though the Chicago Bears have the top overall pick at the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, there is still so much uncertainty with regard to their plans. There is just so much to consider when evaluating a prospect as their play and numbers in college are just not enough telling factors about what they could end up being in the pros. An NFL Network analyst recently painted a real picture of just how difficult it is to assess a quarterback prospect.

“It’s darn near impossible,” said Daniel Jeremiah, the top draft analyst for the NFL Network who spent more than a decade in the league as a scout. “You do your best to try and figure it out and you try and watch guys and you try and see and follow their eyes and how they’re getting to (option) one to two to three and how quickly they’re doing that. Without knowing how they’re coached and what the scheme calls for them to do, it still makes it a little bit difficult.”

The Chicago Bears are getting linked to top NFL QB prospect Caleb Williams, who played college football for the USC Trojans. Expected to go first overall at the draft, Williams could end up being the Chicago Bears starting quarterback right from the get-go of the 2024 NFL season, but of course, there is no assurance that he will be a big thing in the pros even if that’s what the eye tests and details written down on paper by NFL scouts suggests.
