The Chicago Bears entered the offseason with a desperate need of offensive line help, especially on the interior, following a rough 2024 season protecting Caleb Williams. Chicago struggled to protect Williams in 2024, surrendering the sixth-most pressures (160), tied for the seventh-most hurries (52), and a league-worst 68 sacks allowed. Since the Kansas City Chiefs franchised-tagged Trey Smith, the top free-agent interior offensive lineman, the Bears needed to choose a different route in fixing their interior.
The Chicago Bears acquire Pro Bowler to protect Caleb Williams in 2025

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chicago Bears acquired Pro Bowl left guard Jonah Jackson from the Los Angeles Rams for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Jackson is in the second year of his 3-year, $51 million contract he signed with the Rams last offseason. As Schefter points out, since the Bears are taking on his contract, and he is set to make $17.5 million in salary in 2025.
Jonah Jackson is scheduled to make $17.5 million in salary this season, and the Bears are taking on his contract, per source. Rams don’t retain any of Jackson’s salary. https://t.co/N1SVnXXoDm

The Pro Bowl guard had a rough 2024 campaign

Jonah Jackson missed most of training camp with a scapula injury, and later switched from left guard to center at the start of the 2024 season. Jackson’s time at center didn’t last long after switching to left guard in Week 2 and aggravating the scapula injury the same day, causing him to miss Weeks 3-9 and a stay on injured reserve. When he returned, he started Week 10 at center, but the Rams later benched him in favor of Beaux Limmer for the rest of the season. He did get the nod at right guard in Week 18 while the starters rested.
Since Jackson had a high cap hit and keeping him as a backup didn’t make sense on his current contract, the Rams could not justify keeping him on their active roster. Instead of cutting him outright, they were able to receive a sixth-round pick in return.
