The Chicago Bears wasted no time fixing their offensive line that allowed a league-worst 68 sacks in Caleb Williams‘ rookie season. Since the Kansas City Chiefs franchise tagged Trey Smith, the top free-agent offensive lineman, and considering the free-agent mark is weak, Chicago had to go with Plan B and acquire players via trade. Yesterday, the Bears acquired Pro Bowl left guard Jonah Jackson from the Los Angeles Rams.

Today, the front office acquired another talented interior offensive lineman.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Bears acquired 3x Pro Bowl, 2x All-Pro, and 4x Super Champion left guard Joe Thuney from the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2026 fourth-round pick. Thuney, who turned 32 in November, is in the final year of his contract. As Michael Ginnitti of Spotrac points out, he is essentially on a 1-year, $16 million non-guaranteed contract in 2025.

The star guard spent the last four years with Kansas City

After spending the first five years with the New England Patriots and winning two Super Bowls, Joe Thuney signed a 5-year, $80 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2021 offseason. Thuney had a great tenure with Kansas City, playing 66 regular season and 11 postseason games, winning two Super Bowl rings, and earning himself three Pro Bowls and two First-Team All-Pro selections. After starting the first 13 games at left guard in 2024, he switched to left tackle in Weeks 15-17 and in their three postseason games and was recognized as the team’s MVP.
