The Washington Commanders shocked the NFL world when they did not pick up the fifth-year option on Chase Young. The rumor now is that the team may be looking to trade him. The former second-overall pick looked to be a lock for a long-term contract but his ACL injury has apparently affected Washington’s plans. An NFC contender, the Detroit Lions, are the betting favorite to land the star defensive end.
Detroit Lions Are The Betting Favorite For Chase Young
The Lions and GM Brad Holmes remade their secondary in the offseason. One area of weakness on the defense still is the defensive line. Rookie standout Aiden Hutchinson anchors one side but after that it is a little murky. The Lions could use some depth and someone else on the other side in order to take some pressure off of Hutchinson. Here are the current odds to land Young.
- Detroit Lions +400
- Seattle Seahawks +500
- Chicago Bears+600
- New York Giants+600
- Houston Texans +700
Should The Lions Go All-In?
This would be the kind of move that would signal an all-in push for a Super Bowl. It isn’t a bad year to take that swing. Aaron Rodgers is gone from the division. The Vikings seem to be in rebuild mode and while the Bears could make some noise, they are probably a year or two away. The NFC is a very weak conference. Outside of the Eagles, Cowboys, and 49ers, everyone else feels very beatable. If a couple of breaks go their way, the path to the NFC Championship Game could open up for Detroit.
It is unclear what it will take for the Detroit Lions, or any team, to land Chase Young. The Commanders will also look for the best deal out there and could ultimately settle on keeping him. As the offseason goes on, this will be a huge storyline to watch.
