Unfortunately, the Chargers could not overcome the mistakes made in Thursdays matchup against the Chiefs. After falling to 1-1, they look onward to what should be a lighter schedule over the next few weeks. However, even with a loss, there were still some player performances that deserve to be recognized as Players of the Week.
Here are the Week 2 Players of the Week for the Los Angeles Chargers:
Honorable Mention: Mike Williams posted 8 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Williams is now the highest scoring visiting player in Arrowhead with 7 touchdowns. He passes company such as Ladainian Tomlinson and Marvin Harrison on the leaderboard.
Week 2 Offensive Player of the Week: Justin Herbert

While for most of the game it looked like just another day in paradise for Chargers fans as they watched Justin Herbert do what he always does. Striking fear in the opposing defense, Herbert completed 68.75% of his passes for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns. However, that is not why the Quarterback is so deserving of this recognition. Herbert went down late in the game and was not getting up. With fractured rib cartilage, Justin Herbert came back into the game, driving down the field with a 35 yard dart to Deandre Carter. Then, he put the Chargers back into the game with a touchdown strike to Joshua Palmer. He earned the respect of NFL fans across the nation for his guts and mental fortitude and should be recognized for it.
Week 2 Defensive Player of the Week: Asante Samuel Jr.

Asante Samuel Jr. was playing tight coverage the entire game on Thursday night. Allowing just a 44.4% completion percentage for 4 catches and 39 yards. He also allowed a passer rating of 57.2 when targeted second to Bryce Callahan who was only targeted once. The second year corner was constantly in the right place at the right time almost hauling in 3 potential game saving interceptions. But aside from the dropped picks, Samuel played exceptionally well.
Week 2 Special Teams Player of the Week: JK Scott

The first back to back winner for this segment and a key component in keeping the Chargers in this game. JK Scott punted the ball a season high 6 times in Arrowhead, averaging 40.5 yards per punt. Three of his punts landed inside the 20 yard line, which set up the Chiefs offense with long field position. The Chargers new found ability to flip the field with JK Scott is surely a sight for sore eyes as special teams has been a weak point for the team for some time now.
The Chargers fly back to Los Angeles for a long break before hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 3. They have what looks to be some winnable games over the next few weeks before hosting the Broncos in Week 6. As long as Justin Herbert comes back healthy with the long rest, Chargers fans should put this one behind them. The future is still full of bright opportunities to take the AFC West should these Players of the Week continue to perform.
