Back in the start of the 2020 season Chargers Quarterback Justin Herbert got off to an unexpected start. Tyrod Taylor was the newly appointed starting QB after Philip Rivers went off to Indianapolis. Taylor won his first game as the Chargers new QB against the Bengals 16-13 in week one. He was then getting ready to make his second start in powder blues before tragedy struck.
What happened to Tyrod Taylor?
Taylor was on the sideline receiving an injection for cracked ribs from the team doctor. Then the worst happened for the former Hokie. Taylor’s lung was punctured by the team doctor, David Gazzaniga, and he was immediately ruled out for the game. Shortly after, Justin Herbert got his first start in the powder blues and the Chargers never looked back.
After two years time, another Chargers Quarterback is suffering with a rib injury. Justin Herbert fractured his rub cartilage in a week 2 loss against Kansas City. Apparently, the team doctor that is taking care of Herbert’s rib injury is the very same one that punctured the former quarterbacks lung. David Gazzaniga and the Newport orthopedic practice he runs are being sued by Taylor for at least $5 million according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Taylor alleged in the lawsuit that he suffered “severe physical pain resulting in hospitalization, physical therapy, emotional distress and other past pain and suffering.” He also claims that he would have made more money when he went into free agency in 2021 if he would have been able to show what he can still do. The trial was scheduled to start in November of this year. Both parties decided to move the court appearance to April of 2023 due to the start of the NFL season.
Taylor is now 33 years old and the backup Quarterback to Daniel Jones for the New York Giants. He played for the Houston Texans as the starting quarterback between 2020 and now. Taylor started six games before suffering a hamstring injury in week 2 against the Cleveland Browns. Again, losing his starting job to what looked to a promising rookie Quarterback in Davis Mills.
