BYU Football to benefit from the CFP expansion
College Football Playoff Committee announced the expansion to 12 teams beginning in 2024-2025. “We’re delighted to be moving forward,” said Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff. This comes after the news of the Rose Bowl signing off as the last one to make this possible and also giving up playing on New Year’s Day.

This move needed to happen years ago but it is finally here and going to benefit the whole world of college football. BYU moving into the Big 12 was going to help their possible selection any ways but now this will really make it one day possible. 12 teams means one more college football but two more teams and a more interesting playoff.
The Format for the Playoffs
The Four quarterfinal games and the semifinal games will be played in bowl games these will rotate on a yearly basis. The 2024 season those quarterfinals will be played at the Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl, and the Sugar Bowl. The semifinals will be held at the Cotton Bowl and the Orange Bowl. The 2025 season quarterfinals will be held at the Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. That years semifinals will be at the Fiesta Bowl and, the Peach Bowl. All times and times will be announced at a later date.
Benefits BYU Football
The Cougars are 7-5 this season so this year they weren’t in the talk but the two previous seasons they were and they had a chance going into this season until they forgot how to play ball and some coaching calls that needed to be fixed. When many thought they should have gone last season to a new years eve bowl game and then played another small bowl game that was early in the bowl game season.
This is also great for recruiting purposes if BYU can get back to level they were at a couple of years ago then they could bring in more recruits as they see a playoff team better to play for. With many of the players who just entered to transfer portal the Cougars need to get some more talent back and this will be essential to playing in the Big 12 as this conference plays at a high level and that was displayed this year.
