Lane Kiffin’s Son Breaks Silence On His Father’s Coaching Future At Ole Miss

CFB Analyst Reveals the Irony in Florida’s Hunt for Lane Kiffin Ahead of Saturday’s Clash

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has become a top candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Florida since the Gators fired Billy Napier in October. Some rumors say that Kiffin remains a primary target for Florida, even as he leads Ole Miss towards a potential College Football Playoff berth in the 2025 season.

However, any potential move is unlikely to happen until Ole Miss’s season ends, which could extend into January if the Rebels make the playoff. As Ole Miss prepares to face Florida on Saturday, On3’s Brett McMurphy pointed out an ironic twist for the Gators.

“How ironic is it that Florida needs to defeat Lane Kiffin Saturday to knock Rebels out of playoff contention so Gators won’t have to wait until after playoffs to make a run at Kiffin,” McMurphy tweeted.

Kiffin has compiled a 53-19 record in six seasons at Ole Miss following his stint at Florida Atlantic, and he remains a popular figure in the region.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin has stayed silent since Napier’s firing three weeks ago, while interim coach Billy Gonzales admitted he is well aware of the chatter surrounding Kiffin’s name.

When asked about Kiffin’s potential fit at Florida, Gonzales also gave a diplomatic reply.

“I probably shouldn’t even answer those questions, to be honest with you,” Gonzales said. “I think he’s a really good football coach. There’s a lot of really good football coaches. He is definitely one of them.”

Kiffin’s current deal with Ole Miss runs through 2031. Besides Florida, LSU is also reportedly interested in him after parting ways with Brian Kelly.

Lane Kiffin has done a remarkable job guiding the Ole Miss Rebels this season. Despite his success, speculation about his future with the program continues to swirl. Recently, Kiffin’s son, Knox Kiffin, addressed the ongoing questions regarding his father’s coaching plans and offered a candid perspective on the rumors.

“It’s definitely a little bit annoying, but I understand, they want to know,” Knox said. “I don’t know anything about it, and I don’t think he’s really worried about anything. He’s just trying to go to the playoffs.”

Knox later went on to explain that any decisions about the future will likely come later.

“I don’t think he’s worried about any of that until after the season.”

Meanwhile, Kiffin was asked this week what defines a good head coaching job in today’s college football environment. In reply, he provided an insightful response that reflects the evolving nature of the sport.

“People used to say facilities, practice field, those things,” Kiffin said. “That’s changed. It’s going to be, ‘How much NIL do you have? How is your collective? How much do you have?’”

For now, Kiffin and his team remain focused on keeping their College Football Playoff hopes alive. Still, the question of his long-term future at Ole Miss remains unanswered.
