Both the Wyoming Cowboys (5-2) and Boise State Broncos (3-4) are coming off a bye, so everyone should be at their best for Saturday’s annual showdown. The Cowboys’ last game was a loss at #19 Air Force on October 14. That same day, Boise State dropped their road game against Colorado State.
Each sideline will have their eyes set on getting back into the win column. Both sides are 2-1 in conference play, so a loss probably ends any shot at making the MWC championship game. Will Wyoming snap a six-year losing streak against Boise State, or are the Broncos destined to beat them again?

Key Stats
Wyoming Cowboys
After missing the game against Air Force, Harrison Waylee is probable for this game. He has 540 rushing yards on 75 carries this season, pacing a Cowboys team averaging 164.4 rushing yards per contest. Through the air, Wyoming isn’t quite as explosive, picking up only 160.3 yards per game. Quarterback Andrew Peasley has only thrown two picks, and with help from his legs, he guides the team to 26.3 points per game.
On the other side of the ball, the Cowboys are giving up 25.6 points per game. They hold opposing quarterbacks to a 59.2% completion rate and 208.4 yards per game. Per attempts, foes only collect 6.1 yards per pass. Meanwhile, Wyoming gives up 172.0 rushing yards weekly, although facing Texas and Air Force skewed those numbers.
Boise State Broncos
Boise State features running back Ashton Jeanty on offense. He is third nationally in rushing yards (868) and rushing touchdowns (11) this season, pacing an offense that gains 190.9 per game on the ground. Don’t sleep on wide receiver Eric McAlister either, with his 628 receiving yards. The Broncos rack up 425.4 yards per game, which leads to 29.7 points.
However, this team is only 3-4, thanks to a defense that surrenders 428.3 yards per game. Five of the seven teams that the Broncos have played exceeded the 25-point mark. They only allow 124.0 rushing yards per game, but the pass defense is among college football’s worst. In the air, opposing quarterbacks complete 64.2% of their attempts, average 8.9 yards a pass attempt, and finish with 304.3 yards per game.
Game Prediction
With all due respect to Boise State (on their patented blue turf), they aren’t Air Force or Texas. Those are Wyoming’s two road tests of this season: losses to ranked foes. The Cowboys won’t be unfamiliar with trying to slow down a dangerous rushing attack.
The difference is that Boise State’s defense is much worse than those aforementioned ranked opponents. Scoring in this one will be much easier for the Cowboys than it has been in those contests. Expect the Cowboys to leave Idaho with a sixth win, making them bowl-eligible.
