The New York Giants are waiting to see how things play out in the 2024 NFL Draft. There are a lot of scenarios that could play out for the franchise in many different ways. No one knows if they will draft a quarterback or if they will draft a wide receiver or let alone trade down.
There are many things that teams do every single season during the 2024 NFL Draft that we question. The New York Giants need to be smart during the 2024 NFL Draft and general manager Joe Schoen has been scouting a lot of quarterbacks.
He has also been scouting the wide receiver position as well and the New York Giants just recently upgraded the NFL Draft room within their organization. The Giants no doubt will find a talented player in this draft, but it is a matter of who they draft.
The New York Giants Should Not Draft J.J. McCarthy In the 2024 NFL Draft If Marvin Harrison Jr. Or Any Of the Three Wide Receivers Are Still On the Board
The Giants will need to take a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft but they should not repeat history by reaching on one. That’s what they did in 2019 with Daniel Jones with the sixth overall selection out of Duke. He has only had one good season in the NFL and has either been hurt or horrendous in the other seasons.
Yes, New York does need to take a quarterback but they will only take a quarterback if Drake Maye from North Carolina is available at number six. He is more suited to be a starting quarterback in the NFL than J.J. McCarthy.
If Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, or Rome Odunze are available at number six along with J.J. McCarthy, the New York Giants should draft one of those three wide receivers over McCarthy. Let’s say the quarterbacks go with the first three picks and then Nabers goes four to the Arizona Cardinals and then Joe Alt goes five to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Harrison Jr., Odunze, and McCarthy would still be available at six. Marvin Harrison Jr. is more of a surefire bet in this NFL Draft than J.J. McCarthy is. McCarthy would feel more of a project with the sixth pick rather than Harrison Jr. or any of the wide receivers, who would be ready to produce in the NFL right away for the New York Giants or any other team for that matter. They need a top wide receiver on their team because they also don’t have a true number-one wide receiver on the roster.
