The Las Vegas Raiders don’t have an inspiring quarterback situation. They have Jimmy Garoppolo, who likely has played his last game in Raiders uniform, and Aidan O’Connell, who just doesn’t have the look and play of a potential franchise quarterback. The 2024 NFL Draft is coming right up, and with it comes hope for the Raiders to select a potential future long-term QB.
Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce Is Enamored With Jayden Daniels
Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has not hidden his admiration for one of the top NFL QB prospects this year in LSU Tigers product Jayden Daniels, whom Pierce said he’s known for nearly a decade and a half.
“I’ve known Jayden since he was 14 years old,” Pierce said, per Vincent Bonsignore Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“All he’s done is prove people wrong,” Pierce further said about Daniels, who just won the 2023 Heisman Trophy.
But even if Pierce wants the Las Vegas Raiders to pick Daniels, that’s unlikely to happen given that they’re picking 13th overall at the draft. Caleb Williams is widely expected to go No. 1 overall, but even if the Chicago Bears take him, the Washington Commanders and the New England Patriots, both QB-needy franchises, are second and third, respectively, on the draft order. Daniels is likely to be picked up by either of those teams, which would leave the Raiders with a bunch of lower-tier QB prospects to choose from.
Assuming they miss out on Daniels and decide to use their first-round pick on a non-QB asset, the Raiders can still look for a QB upgrade in the NFL free agency.
In 2023, the Raiders were just 23rd in the league with 19.5 points per game and 27th with 289.5 total yards per contest.
