Carson Wentz was recently released by the Washington Commanders. Wentz and the Commanders parted ways after a tough 2022 campaign. The Commanders went 8-8-1 and missed the playoffs for the second straight season. Releasing Carson Wentz was on the Commander’s off-season checklist.

Carson Wentz’s release was inevitable because of his performance in 2022. Wentz passed for 1,755 yards, threw 11 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Wentz had a few moments with Washington, but didn’t do enough to secure a permanent position. Taylor Heinicke got starts and so did rookie quarterback Sam Howell.

Carson Wentz Stuck in The Middle

I believe Carson Wentz is stuck in the middle. Carson Wentz is stuck in the middle because he hasn’t stayed anywhere for a long period. Wentz received one contract extension with the Eagles and only lasted a season with the Colts. Sports reporters and football fans said Washington would be Wentz’s last chance. Wentz had an inconsistent season and suffered a finger injury.

Wentz is also stuck in the middle because of how NFL teams view him. Wentz has been viewed by some as a locker room cancer. Colt’s Owner Jim Irsay was ready to move on from Wentz after the 2021 season. Irsay went on record and said, “I’ll take anyone but Carson Wentz.” Wentz has constantly tried to prove himself on the gridiron and hasn’t had the success he wants.

It’s crazy to think about Carson Wentz’s current situation. Wentz had an excellent collegiate career at North Dakota State. Wentz passed for 2,314 yards, threw 45 touchdowns, and completed 76 percent of his passes.  Wentz added 1,028 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns with the Bison.

Wentz was the second pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Eagles were excited to get Wentz and believed he would be the quarterback of the future. However, things got ugly after Wentz tore his ACL and LCL in 2017. Wentz was having an MVP-type season and the Eagles had the best offense in the NFL.

Wentz fractured his back in 2018 and never returned to his MVP form. Wentz also suffered a grade 1 concussion in 2020 when the Eagles played the Seahawks in the playoffs. Wentz injured his foot during training camp with the Colts. Wentz injured both of his ankles during the 2021 season. Injuries have haunted Wentz and stalled his career.

Wentz’s recklessness had cost him. Wentz’s strong arm has gotten him in trouble on the gridiron. Wentz has lost multiple games because he hasn’t taken care of the ball. Colt’s fans remember the loss to the Titans in 2021. That was ugly.

    Wentz’s Future

If Wentz is willing, he should go to a team and be a backup quarterback. Sitting behind a quarterback can help Wentz see the game from a different lens.
