A Carolina Panthers tight end takes a pay cut
The Carolina Panthers signed former first-round selection Hayden Hurst as their number-one tight end for the 2023 season. The Panthers signed Hust as one of several players the team inked to deals to help fortify the offense for their next quarterback. To save on cap space for their free agency spending binge, the Panthers are having another player take a pay cut.
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, tight end Ian Thomas will take a pay cut in 2023 and 2024. His base pay will be $3 million next season and $3.64 in 2024. The move will save the Panthers $2,875 million in cap space.
#Panthers TE Ian Thomas agreed to a pay cut, reducing his base pay to $3 million in 2023 and $3.65M in 2024.
It created an extra $2.875M in cap space this year for Carolina, which has been active, agreeing to terms with RB Miles Sanders and TE Hayden Hurst.

The Panthers signed Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders in addition to Hurst on Wednesday. Those signings came at a significant cost to the Panthers, who will own the number one pick in the 2023 NFL Draft in April. According to Over The Cap, the Panthers have about $16 million in cap space.
