Carolina Panthers Draw Ugly Trade Destination Review Ahead of 2024 Season

Just like the New York Giants and Denver Broncos, the Carolina Panthers are among the teams that have been identified as the worst trade destinations for NFL players. With the 2024 season coming soon later this year, it’ll take nothing short of a miracle to change that outlook.

The 2023 season was a dismal one for the Panthers, as they failed to improve upon their 7-10 record from 2022 and endured a tumultuous year that ultimately led to the firing of head coach Frank Reich.

The Panthers started the season 0-6, marking the first time they had done so since 1998. After a Week 12 loss to the Titans, the team parted ways with Reich and appointed Chris Tabor as the interim head coach. This was the third head coach firing in just five years for the franchise.

The team’s struggles continued, and they were officially eliminated from playoff contention in Week 13 following a loss to the Buccaneers. The Panthers finished the season with a dismal 2-15 record, tying the franchise’s worst-ever mark set in 2001.

Notably, the Panthers acquired the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, which they used to select Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. However, this selection was the lone bright spot in an otherwise forgettable campaign for the struggling franchise.

Carolina Panthers Named As One of the Worst Trade Destinations Ahead of NFL 2024 Season

After a disappointing run last season, the Panthers have emerged as one of the teams no wants to be traded to in the NFL. In an article posted on Bleacher Report, Alex Ballentine went into detail why Carolina isn’t the place to be in the league.

The Carolina Panthers don’t check many boxes when it comes to being an attractive trade destination.

It starts with ownership. David Tepper has fired coaches during the last two seasons, leaving an interim coach to step in and finish out the season. The Panthers received a “D” in the ownership category of the latest NFLPA report card.

The coaching turbulence and key roster-building mistakes have led to the Panthers having six consecutive losing seasons. After coming in second-to-last in our post-draft, it would be quite the feat for first-year head coach Dave Canales to snap that postseason drought in 2024.

Despite a lack of talent in several key spots, the Panthers don’t have a ton of cap room to give out a big contract. They have seven players set to make over $10 million next season, including Jadeveon Clowney, Damien Lewis and Taylor Moton,” Ballentine wrote.

Last season, the Panthers fielded a 31st ranked offense out of 32 teams in the league. Their defense was in 29th place, making them one of the worst-performing franchises in recent memory.

It remains to be seen whether the Panthers can turn the narrative around and improve their record this season. In any case, there’ll be a lot of eyes on Carolina to see if they can get the job done.
