After quite some time, the Carolina Panthers’ stadium is going to get renovated, thanks to the city of Charlotte giving the green light to do so. In turn, David Tepper, the team’s owner expressed his gratitude in an official statement.
Tepper, a billionaire hedge fund manager, acquired the Panthers in 2018 for a record $2.2 billion. Since taking over the team, the Panthers have struggled on the field, compiling a 31-68 record and going through six head coaches during Tepper’s ownership.

In 2022, Tepper canceled the construction of a new practice facility in Rock Hill, South Carolina, after claiming the city failed to hold up its end of the deal, leading to a bankruptcy filing and the demolition of the partially built facility.
Most recently, on December 31, 2023, Tepper was fined $300,000 by the NFL for throwing a drink at a fan during a Panthers game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. His tenure as Panthers owner has been marked by controversy and the team’s lack of on-field success, leading to criticism that he has been one of the NFL’s worst owners during his time in charge of the franchise.

The Charlotte city council approved an $800 million renovation plan for Bank of America Stadium, with $650 million in public funds. The project will modernize the stadium’s infrastructure, including a new sound system, scoreboards, and seating.

Construction is set to begin in 2026 and is expected to be completed by 2029. This move will ensure the stadium remains a prominent part of Charlotte’s sports and tourism landscape, as well as a respectable home for the Panthers whenever other NFL teams come around.
