Carolina Panthers and Former #1 Pick Bryce Young: “It’s Over” According to Shocking Report

The Carolina Panthers are one of the worst teams in the NFL once again this season. They lost their first game of the season, a contest against the New Orleans Saints, 47-10 before losing 26-3 to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week Two. During that time, 2023 number one overall pick Bryce Young completed just 55.4% of his passes for 245 yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 44.1 passer rating.

Earlier this week, head coach David Canales announced that Young would no longer be the team’s starting quarterback. Veteran Andy Dalton will take over as the starter from now on.

The Carolina Panthers May Regret Drafting Bryce Young

Young was a disappointment as a rookie last season, too. In 16 games, he completed 59.8% of his passes for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 73.7 passer rating.

Of course, his disappointing rookie season was magnified by the success of CJ Stroud, who was drafted second overall after the Panters took Young. The Houston Texans quarterback won the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award for completing 63.9% of his passes for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, just five interceptions, and a 100.8 passer rating.

This does not even take into account that the Panthers paid a king’s ransom in order to acquire the number one overall pick from the Chicago Bears last year. The first-round pick that they sent to Chicago became the number one pick in this year’s NFL Draft, which the Bears used to take Caleb Williams.

NFL Insider Says Bryce Young’s Time with the Carolina Panthers Is Over

In a recent report published by The Athletic on Saturday morning, NFL insider Dianna Russini states that the benching of Young is not to give him more time to learn and develop. It is a sign that the Panthers are done with him.

“Things are bad in Carolina right now. After just two games in a new offensive system with a new head coach, the Panthers made a bold decision and pulled the plug on 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young.

“It’s over. No matter what Carolina says, rest assured: It’s over.

“This isn’t an experiment.

“This isn’t a Ross and Rachel break.

“This is Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston over.”

She later added, “First-year head coach David Canales told the world it was his call, but it was hard to find anyone in the league who believed that owner David Tepper had nothing to do with this decision.”

Interestingly, it was Tepper who ignored the advice of more knowledgeable people and picked Young, who many believed (and still do) that he is undersized as quarterback.
