The 3-11 Carolina Panthers host the 7-7 Arizona Cardinals at Bank of America Stadium for Week 16 of the regular season. The Panthers, who are in contention for the 1st overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, can sabotage the Cardinals’ chances of making the playoffs. With a loss and the Los Angeles Rams’ victory over the New York Jets, the Cardinals will be eliminated from playoff contention.
The Carolina Panthers’ starting interior offensive lineman is battling an illness
After not initially appearing on the injury report during the week, the Panthers’ new starting center, Cade Mays, was added to the injury report after coming down with an illness earlier today. Mays, who started the last six games at center, was officially downgraded to questionable. The Panthers released their inactive players list at 10:30.
What does his official game status look like for Week 16?
The Panthers released their official inactive player list for Week 16 a little while ago and ruled out seven players. According to Darin Gantt of Panthers.com, the team’s website, Cade Mays is officially inactive and will not play against the Arizona Cardinals.
And Brady Christensen’s back at center this week with Cade Mays ill.
Christensen can capably start at any position on the line, and there are few people who can do that.

Who starts at center?
As Gantt pointed out earlier, former third-round pick Brady Christensen will regain his old starting spot. Christensen switched positions this offseason and opened the season as the backup center to Austin Corbett. The former offensive tackle/guard took over for Corbett when he suffered a season-ending injury in Week 5. He got the starting nod for Weeks 6-8 but moved over to left tackle during Week 8 and started Weeks 9-10 there because Ikem Ekwonu missed time with an injury. As he replaced Ekwonu for Weeks 9-10, Cade Mays has since taken over as the starting center after their BYE, getting the nod for Weeks 12-15.
