Don’t Look for the NFL’s First Round of Cuts to help the Giants.

    And that's a Good Thing.

When teams begin to trim down rosters, people start praying for miracles that someone else’s castaways will be a better fit on their team. Fans should not do that to themselves this preseason. If your team is dumpster diving at this time of the year, they will likely be in the standings’ dumpster all season. It is not a good sign. I am slightly pleased to tell you the first round of cuts has nothing more for the Giant’s faithful to salivate over. In the last few days, they claimed CB Olaijah Griffin off waivers from Buffalo and signed OL Eric Smith to replenish depth due to injuries. Neither has a history of starting potential.

Giant’s Season Will Still be Very Vulnerable to Injuries

The Giants are what they are, and it is time we find out what that is.  You can’t build a young team and start injecting veterans because they might be a little better in the present. Nor can you keep signing placeholders waiting for injured players to heal.  Only when the final cuts are made, and a team needs to replace those injured for the season, should we begin our prayers. The giants do not have the cap space to pursue any big-name cuts, which would likely get in the way of other players’ development.  Therefore, the cards are already dealt on this season, and we’re merely waiting for the river to drop.

    Giant Waived/Terminated

    • TE Jeremiah Hall
    • DB Gavin Heslop
    • WR Austin Proehl.
    • CB Jarren Williams
    • OT Matt Gono.

    Injured Reserve

    • T Marcus McKethan
