Cam Williams: The Biggest Pull of the 2022 Class (Literally)

    OT Cameron Williams

This may be the biggest human to ever step on the 40 Acres. Listed, as an 18 year old freshman, at 6’7” 374 pounds. Holy. Williams was, quite literally, a huge pull in the historic 2022 OL class. In a few years when we Texas fans revisit this class, we will all think, “Thank you Mario Cristobal for taking that Miami job.” As that is the reason both Kelvin Banks and Cam Williams are at Texas today.

    High School and Recruiting

Williams comes to UT by way of Duncanville High School in Duncanville, TX. He was rated the 407th player in the nation, the 35th OT. As well as the 56th player in Texas. He was recruited to Texas by Coaches Kyle Flood and Jeff Banks. Williams was named the District 8-6A Offensive New Comer of the Year in 2019. Big Cam took campus visits to Texas, Oregon, OU, Miami, and Texas Tech. He initially committed to Oregon to play for the aforementioned Mario Cristobal, but flipped to Texas after Cristobal went to Miami. His offers were from all teams mentioned above, as well as Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and many more.

    On Field Skills

As I referenced before, Cam Williams is one of the biggest humans in human history. Him just leaning on opponents will be enough to compromise them. However, he isn’t just big. He is super athletic, and not just athletic for his size, but athletic overall. He has great feet and can mirror quicker rushers, and does a great job redirecting to beat inside moves. People his size shouldn’t move the way that they do. In fact, there may have never been someone his size that moves the way he does. I’d expect the Texas staff to get him down into the 345 range. At that point he will be even more athletic. The sky’s the limit with this kid based on his size and athletic profile, hopefully it will translate into some nasty pancakes.

    Outlook for Texas in 2022

Big Cam has been given a chance to win the RT job right away, and word is he may just be doing it. He’s the biggest and scariest player on the team, so if he takes the job what would anybody do about it? Fight him for it? No chance. Of course it wouldn’t come to that, but Wililams does offer things that no other OL on the team does with his size and length. If he is able to stick at tackle it would be a huge revelation for the Longhorns. Having two great bookend tackles for three years is something that’s been a dream over the last decade. If Cam locks down the right side, and Kelvin Banks locks down the left side, that leaves about 15 players. They’d need to find three that can play. I’d be willing to bet Kyle Flood could do that. Thankfully, this UT offensive line looks better now than it has in a very long time.

    Career Outlook

Like I said before, this grown man, 18 year old, has limitless potential. There are maybe 10 people in the entire world his size, with his movement skills. If he puts anything positive on tape over the next 4 years, NFL scouts and coaches will be drooling at the thought of what they can turn him into. Shoot, even if he puts nothing on film, someone will take him earlyish in the draft because, “Well I can fix him.” “Give me a guy with that size and athleticism and see what I turn him into.” All coaches have an ego in that way. That’s why in the NFL we see terrible first round picks get second contracts. Regardless, Big Cam Williams has limitless potential. Even if he doesn’t make it in football, I guarantee the WWE or AEW has a contract ready with his name on it.
