Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton wants to be a pioneer for HBCU programs by creating an “all black College GameDay.”
The 2010 Heisman Trophy winner took notice of Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy landing a gig on Fox Sports’ “Big Noon Kickoff” for the upcoming season.
Cam Newton wants to host the “Black College GameDay”

During a July 25th episode of his “4th & 1” podcast, Newton admired what Portnoy was able to do in landing a gig similar to what ESPN gave Pat McAfee for “College GameDay.” He noted he had the Heisman Trophy in common with Desmond Howard.
“I pay homage where homage is needed to be paid,” Newton said. “Dave Portnoy has been a trailblazer for content for years. What he’s been able to do with Barstool and create characters within Barstool. Big Cat, those guys, it’s just wowing.”
Newton thinks he can draw a crowd for HBCUs

Newton thinks he can handle a similar role, but not for D1 football. The outspoken former athlete wants to be the intro to HBCU football games in the fall.
“If you give Cam Newton a Pat McAfee-like deal, oh my goodness, Newton said. “You’re talking about the content, then you can start going to the parties. You can really start showing the tailgates. The student section… Which one of these members of the media is willing to go into the student section? I am. This is the sweetest gig in sports.”
“Since y’all don’t want me, that’s cool,” Newton said of the aforementioned networks. “I want to be a part of the Black college football GameDay.”
Newton knows where he wants to go.
“You get me to the Savannah States,” Newton said. “You get me to the Tennessee States, the Jackson States. You get me to the Morgan States, the North Carolina Central’s, the North Carolina A&T’s, the North Carolina A&M’s.”
