The Chicago Bears are heading into year two with Caleb Williams under center, but year one with Head Coach Ben Johnson at the helm. The splash hire has created hope within a fanbase that has been looking for it for quite some time.
However, a recent quote from Williams is going viral, and it doesn’t look good at all.
“I Don’t Think I Can Do It” Bears’ Caleb Williams Enrages Fans With Horrible Comment Leaked To Public

Though Williams is the Chicago Bears’ franchise quarterback, he reportedly didn’t want to be:
ESPN relayed details from the upcoming book American Kings: A Biography of the Quarterback by Seth Wickersham on Thursday, and it revealed that Williams’ father, Carl, didn’t want his son to play for a Bears franchise due to their long history of having bad quarterback play.
“Do I want to go there? I don’t think I can do it with [former Bears offensive coordinator Shane] Waldron,” Caleb Williams is quoted as saying in the book.
According to Wickersham, Williams was so concerned about being picked by the Bears that he and his dad, Carl Williams, considered doing something drastic to avoid them altogether.
They tried to circumvent the NFL draft to figuring a way around the league’s collective bargaining agreement to signing with the United Football Leagu
According to @SethWickersham‘s new book, Caleb Williams told his father that he wanted to play for the Vikings after meeting Kevin O’Connell during the 2024 combine. Carl Williams even reportedly spoke to Archie Manning, who helped Eli Manning choose his team in 2004, about circumventing the league’s collective bargaining agreement to give his son a chance to choose which team he wanted to play for.
“Chicago is the place quarterbacks go to die,” Carl Williams said in the book.
After general manager Ryan Poles told Williams, “We’re drafting you no matter what,” the quarterback decided against publicly criticizing the organization.
“I wasn’t ready to nuke the city,” he said.
Caleb Williams didn’t turn around Chicago in his rookie season. He threw for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions as the Bears finished with a 5-12 record.

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles selected Caleb Williams as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft, but the 2023 Heisman Trophy-winner and his family tried their best to escape them.
Williams didn’t think he could “do it” with Waldron as the offensive coordinator.
Caleb’s preferred destination was with head coach Kevin O’Connell of the Minnesota Vikings, according to Wickersham’s book, although the Bears refused to do anything but draft him with the No. 1 pick.
The team fired head coach Matt Eberflus and Waldron in November, which meant Williams at least didn’t have to continue working with the offensive coordinator, whom he was worried about in the first place.
