The Cleveland Browns faced the Carolina Panthers in week one, and the obvious headline going into the game was Baker Mayfield against the Cleveland Browns. But, that just wasn’t the headline when the game was over with how rookie kicker Cade York played.
Cade York Puts on a Show Against the Panthers
In his first NFL game, Cade York went four for four, with his longest made field goal being from 58-yards out. And the 58-yard field goal also happened to be the game-winning kick to give the Browns a 26-24 victory over Baker Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers.

York is showing confidence while on the field, and it’s being noticed.
“One thing that jumped out to me was his confidence. He has a lot of confidence. He came across, I think some coaches thought he was a little bit cocky at the combine; I never saw that. I just saw a young man — he is young now; he just turned 21 a few months ago — that is extremely confident in his abilities, knows he has work to do and he is humble enough to know that he has to go out and prove it week in and week out. That is the one thing that jumped out to me that he was a very confident young man, which I like.”
Kevin Stefanski even said that the goal for the offensive line was to get to the 40-yard line for York to get a good chance at making it.
“I told the offense before the drive, I said, ‘Let’s get to the 40.’ That was our goal. Now, if we had not gotten to the 40 we would have made a decision.”
Hopefully, York can keep this up. He can be a huge piece for the Browns late in games if he can consistently make kicks like that.
