BYU is coming off another great season. Many of their players in the last few days have been named to a watchlist of many awards for this upcoming season.
Coach of the Year Bobby Dodd
Head Coach Kalani Sitake has been named to the Bobby Dodd Coach of the year award list. On July 12th they released the list of 20 coaches. This list included coaches from all power 5 conferences, AAC, and an independent team. The award is given to coaches who get results on the field but also in the classroom and in the community.
Maxwell Award
Quarterback Jaren Hall has been named to the watchlist of the Maxwell Award. After leading the Cougars to another 10-win season. In 2021 he had 189 completions for 2,583 yards and 20 touchdowns. This award is given to the best all-around player in college football. They also give them out at the high school and professional levels.
Davey O’Brien Award
Quarterback Jaren Hall has also been named to the Davey O’Brien Award watchlist. Ready to continue to prove the world wrong he could potentially join the other BYU quarterbacks to win this award. Hall could join Jim McMahon, Steve Young, and Ty Detmer. This award is given to the best quarterback in college football.
Biletnikoff Award
Puka Nacua has been named to the Biletnikoff Award watchlist for the 2022 season. Given to the most outstanding receiver position doesn’t matter. Nacua had 43 receptions for 805 yards and 6 touchdowns this past season.
Rimington Trophy
Connor Pay was named to the Rimington Trophy watchlist of 2022. This is given to the best center in college football. The list contains the top 40 centers going into this season. Pay started for the Cougars after James Empey went down last season.
John Mackey Award
Tight End Isaac Rex has been named to the John Mackey Award watch list. Given to the most outstanding tight end. Rex had 18 receptions for 191 yards with three touchdowns. Ready to return to the gridiron this fall after getting injured in the last game of the regular season last year.
