BYU Injury Update Week 9
BYU moves into Week 9 with some questions and more to come on who will play in this game as a starter for their position? BYU has some tough players out this week against East Carolina. The offense has taken another direct hit as they lose another wide receiver and a running back. The Cougars may be down some key players, meaning they could struggle more than they have the last three weeks. All this information comes from various sources and the coaches’ interviews after practice. This week keep an eye out for more information on certain players if they play on Friday.
Offense
The offense is going to be without several players on Friday. Each of these has made an impact on the season and it will get harder for the offense to find their rhythm without them. Can this injury update provide any hope that the offense can still be good with these players out?
Kody Epps
Epps is out after leaving the game last week. Coaches are not sure how long they will be without Epps. This season so far he has been one of the top receivers for the Cougars as he has accounted for 458 yards on the season. Without him, the Cougars will have to lean on Chase Roberts, Puka Nacua, and other wide receivers to win this game on the offense side of the ball.

Chris Brooks
Chris Brooks is out this week with a hamstring injury. Brooks is considered not long term so he could be back next week for the Boise State matchup. This doesn’t hurt the offense too much as he hasn’t put up many yards this season. He also hasn’t contributed as much as Cougar fans thought he would have.

Jackson McChesney
McChesney is out for the year with an undisclosed injury. This hurts as he just can’t be healthy and he has yet to play a full season for the Cougars.
Lane Lunt
Lunt a reserve tight end also announced that he is out for the season.
Gunner Romney
Romney might be seen this week after missing last week’s matchup against Liberty. He has only played in the Notre Dame and Utah State games this year. I hope the Cougars get him back and he has a great rest of the season. He has always been great when out there so this would be a win for the offense. Romney is out tonight after only two showings this season.
Defense
The defense is getting healthier so that’s a win for them. Does that mean though they can play a full game with very few mistakes? They don’t have many on this week’s injury updates compared to the rest of the season.
Payton Wilgar
Wilgar is doubtful after leaving the Arkansas game early and then was seen on the sideline in a boot during the game. He also didn’t play last week in the loss to Arkansas. If he can’t go then Jackson Kaufusi will start in his place and the backup will be Tate Romney who is a true freshman. This could be a change as the defense tries to play a role in the win column this week. Wilgar also joins many of those on this list and will not play in tonight’s game.

Blake Mangelson
Mangelson is still to be determined. Before the Arkansas game BYU defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki said that defensive end Blake Mangelson was “a week or two out” from playing. He might still be another week out so the line is going to have to stay healthy with some people out. Mangelson has been on and off this injury update.
Max Tooley
Is out tonight with an injury. He played a little bit last week but missed the week before that due to injury. Chaz Ah You will start in his place.
D’Angelo Mandell
Is out tonight he last played on Sept 24 against Wyoming. Hoping the Cougars can get him back to help the secondary out.
