It was a tough Saturday night in Columbia, MO as the Bulldogs win, but drop in the polls. The game didn’t start off well as the Bulldogs found themselves 10 points behind in the first quarter, which is rare for Georgia teams unless they are playing Alabama. This Georgia offense is suppose to be a better offense than last year, and in the previous three games they have been. But as you hear around college football, it is tough to play in the SEC, no matter who you are playing. Saturday night was no different as Georgia didn’t bring their A game, but pulled out the late comeback win 26-22.
Georgia vs Missouri Game Notes

The game didn’t start fast for the Bulldogs as they found themselves down 10 points early with momentum on the Tigers side. The Tigers defense put the pressure on Stetson Bennett who had to rush throws and also throw the ball out of bounds at times. The Bulldogs would seem to get a drive going only to have it stall on a 3rd down and have to punt.
In the game, the Bulldogs only converted 4 of 13 first downs, not very efficient for the #1 team in the nation. The team put the ball on the ground two times which stalled drives, not very characteristic of this Georgia team. Going into the locker room at the half, the Bulldogs were down by 10 points, 6-16.
Second Half Comeback
Not sure what was said in the locker room at halftime by Head Coach Kirby Smart, but whatever it was lit a fire under this Georgia team. They came out with vengeance and played smash mouth football the way Georgia Football is suppose to be played.

Being down a field goal 19-22 late in the fourth quarter, Georgia had one last chance to stay undefeated before a Missouri fanbase that I had never heard that loud. Rooting for their Missouri Tigers soon became a hush as Georgia went down the field and scored rushing touchdowns on their last two drives by running backs Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards to cap off the scoring for the Bulldogs.
Though no rushing or throwing touchdowns by Quarterback Stetson Bennett, one would have thought he had a great game throwing for 312 yards. But he missed on 20 passes and ended the game 24 of 44 passing. Team ended the game rushing for 169 yards.
After five games, Georgia is averaging 179 rushing yards and 343 passing yards.
Georgia Drops to #2
Georgia survived this game versus Missouri, but didn’t play up to par in the first half and struggled throughout the game to score points. Georgia drops to #2 in the latest AP Poll. But the poll that really matters, the College Football Playoff Poll comes out in a few weeks. The goal is to be one of the top four teams. Even with the injury to Quarterback Bryce Young, Alabama moved back into the #1 spot with their convincing win at Arkansas 49-26.
Next Game: Georgia will host the “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” as the Auburn Tigers come into Athens, GA Saturday, October 8 for a 3:30 PM EST kickoff on CBS. Catch up on my writeup next week on this game and more Georgia coverage on GridironHeroics.
