The Buffalo Bills came up just one win short of the Super Bowl last season. Unfortunately, they were unable to overcome Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to reach the big game.

Heading into the upcoming 2025 NFL season, the Bills are once again expected to be a top-tier contender in the AFC.

Led by Josh Allen, the Buffalo offense is expected to be elite once again. Defensively, the team has the talent to be special, but that needs to be proved on the field. On paper, the Bills are one of the most talented teams in the league.

Ahead of the season, one wide receiver has been named an intriguing trade candidate for Buffalo.

While it’s quite possible that the Bills are comfortable with where their roster stands entering the 2025 season, there is a wide receiver who could be expendable. That wide receiver is none other than veteran wideout Curtis Samuel.

Romell Williams of FanSided suggested Samuel as a surprising potential trade candidate.

“Buffalo signed Samuel to a three-year, $24 million contract last offseason, hoping his speed and gadget play ability would complement Josh Allen. Instead, Samuel had a disappointing 2024 season, totaling just 253 receiving yards and one touchdown,” Williams wrote.

“With second year player Keon Coleman planning a breakout season and Khalil Shakir still on the lineup, along with Dalton Kincaid expecting to ascend in his third year, Samuel suddenly looks like the odd man out. Salary-cap wise, Buffalo could benefit from moving his $9 million cap hit, especially with multiple defensive starters due for extensions.”

Samuel does not project to be a huge part of the Buffalo offense this season. That could change, but the team would not take a step back by moving him for draft capital.

At 28 years old, he would be the kind of piece that teams who need a wide receiver would be interested in. He’s a consistent player, although he’s not a No. 1 or No. 2 talent. If the right trade were offered, the Bills should not hesitate to pull the trigger.

All of that being said, Buffalo may not be open for business. The front office might prefer to get into the 2025 season and see what it has before making moves ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
