The Buffalo Bills and head coach Sean McDermott decided to move on from star wide receiver Stefon Diggs after a disappointing playoff sputter in 2023.
Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans along with some late-round draft picks for a second-round pick in 2025. Now, the Bills head coach and star quarterback have taken shots at Diggs in the lead-up to the 2024 season.
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen took a shot at Stefon Diggs
Diggs began to be at the other end of comments made by players and coaches from the Bills when star QB Josh Allen told the media that he does not miss having Diggs around.
Diggs was easily the most talented wide receiver on the Bills roster in 2023 and it is hard to make the argument that he would not continue to be the most talented wide receiver on the Bills roster if he wasn’t traded away.
Regardless of the talent that allowed Diggs to rack up nearly 1,200 yards receiving and eight touchdowns in 2023, Allen claims he won’t miss having Diggs around.

“Stef’s a great player… what he brought to this team was special… I don’t know if I’d say miss.”

The clip of Allen talking to the media makes it seem like Allen is trying to boost up his current wide receiver room rather than take a shot at Diggs. While he does say “I don’t know if I’d say miss,” Allen had high praise for what Diggs brought to the Bills offense. The comment made by McDermott on the other hand has no such context.
Buffalo Bills HC Sean McDermott commented on selfishness in the WR room
One of the main reasons for the rift that grew between Diggs and the rest of the Bills squad by the end of the 2023 season was Diggs’ perceived selfishness.
When Diggs was still with the Bills, a report from Ben Volin of the Boston Globe claimed that a source “close to the Bills locker room” said that Diggs was frustrated with his limited role in the offense as well as his play-calling input.
At the time, Diggs was only second to star wide receiver Davante Adams when it came to targets since Diggs joined the Bills.
When asked about the current state of the wide receiver room in Buffalo, McDermott praised their “unselfishness.”

Fans have mixed reactions about the comment made by Buffalo Bills HC Sean McDermott
McDermott, who is no stranger to making controversial comments, is taking a lot of heat for placing blame on Diggs by indirectly calling him selfish.
A lot of Bills fans think that McDermott is shifting blame and not holding himself responsible for the Bills’ repeated playoff failures.
Other fans agree with McDermott and think Diggs played a large role in the downfall of the Bills in the postseason.
Now it just seems they are going above and beyond throwing shade at Diggs lol. Last yr it was all “Everything is fine, No drama. Josh and Diggs are besties”. This yr “We’re having fun, We are unselfish. Nice to see guys hanging out again”

Whether you’re a bills fan or not I think we can all agree that this is not what NFL leadership is supposed to look like at the head coaching position 😂😂

Sean is a HUGE ISSUE is this team and has overstayed his welcome. Hamlin saved his job.

Coach McDumbo the blame shifter. Accountability is nonexistent with him

Just like any workplace it’s always the guy that left was the problem

Diggs was the problem, offense took off when Brady took over and he was no longer catered to

Do we honestly care about the opinion of a coach who thinks the terrorist actions that took place on 9/11 were inspiring?
