The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for another run at a Super Bowl. The team fell short of expectations and did not even reach the AFC Championship game last season. The defensive side of the ball is where the Bills need to most help as they lost some key pieces in the off-season. The Bills help their defensive line depth today as they re-signed former first-round pick Shaq Lawson to a one-year deal.
Buffalo Bills Re-Sign Shaq Lawson
Lawson was a first-round pick by the Bills in the 2016 draft. After spending a year in Miami and New York, he returned to the Bills last season. He started in six of the 15 games he played last year and recorded three and a half sacks and 31 total tackles. While Lawson has not lived up to the expectations of a first-round pick, he still has a lot of value as a player. Defensive line depth is always essential for keeping a pass rush going for all four quarters. Lawson will provide some depth and hopefully, have a little bit of a bounceback year.
Can Buffalo Break Through?
It will be a tough task. In their own division, Miami looms with an explosive offense and improved defense. New England is always tough to play and the New York Jets (should) be more formidable with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. In the conference, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are always lurking. Then you throw in the Jaguars, Ravens, Chargers, and a couple of fringe teams, and the road will not be easy. They have the talent on the roster but need to play their best in big games.
Contenders like the Buffalo Bills make moves like the Shaq Lawson signing. It isn’t going to drastically affect the team but it has the chance to move the needle just enough to push a team to victory in a key game.
