The Buffalo Bills are preparing to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game on the road this Sunday night with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Buffalo has lost to Kansas City in its last three meetings in the playoffs and is looking to change the fortunes this time around.
One of the keys for the Bills this weekend is for Von Miller to get after Patrick Mahomes. Hopefully, Miller can turn back the clock like he did during his days with the Denver Broncos when they won Super Bowl L against the Carolina Panthers.
Buffalo Bills Linebacker Von Miller Could Be Cut After the Season Ends
Once the season ends for the Bills, there is a chance that they could get out of his contract. Von Miller is 35 years old. If they don’t get out of his contract, Miller will not be a free agent until after the 2027 NFL season. According to the Bleacher Report Scouting Department, Von Miller could be a cap casualty for the Bills this offseason. They said:
“Von Miller was at least a lot more productive in 2024 than he was in 2023, but it’s still going to be hard to justify bringing him back at $23.8 million. The soon-to-be 36-year-old registered six sacks while playing 33 percent of the defensive snaps for the Bills. The biggest question might be when, not if, the Bills cut him.
The team would clear $8.4 million of his cap hit if they release him ahead of June 1. That would give them a little more breathing room at the beginning of the league year. However, waiting until after June 1 or giving him that designation would clear $17.4 million. That could be their in-season and late-wave free agency budget alone.”
Miller has been very good throughout his NFL career. He will need to help the Buffalo Bills win two more games this season.
Could Retire At the End Of the Season Anyway
If Miller wins a Super Bowl this season with the Bills, there is a chance that they may not need to cut him and that he may retire on his terms. Miller would have nothing else left to prove in the NFL.
It would be his second Super Bowl Title and he is no doubt a future first-ballot hall of famer. If he decides not to retire after this season, then the Bills will have some choices to make with his contract once the season comes to an end for Buffalo.
