Like the Kansas City Chiefs early this season, the Buffalo Bills have found themselves winning all their games without sustaining a single loss. The thing is, ESPN has raised a concern about their wide receivers and how they need to be developed more.
In a commanding performance, the Bills triumphed over the Jacksonville Jaguars 47-10, showcasing the brilliance of quarterback Josh Allen. During the game, NBA star LeBron James praised Allen’s play, highlighting his impact on the field. Allen completed 23 of 30 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns, maintaining his streak of games without interceptions. His precision and decision-making were on full display, especially in the first half, where he exploited the Jaguars’ defense effectively.
The Bills’ defense also shined, consistently pressuring Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and limiting his effectiveness. Despite Lawrence’s attempts, he managed only 178 yards and was intercepted by Damar Hamlin, marking a significant moment considering Hamlin’s return to the field after his cardiac arrest last year. The Bills’ defensive front contributed five sacks, demonstrating their dominance throughout the game.
On the ground, James Cook made crucial contributions, scoring a touchdown and helping maintain favorable down-and-distance situations, while Allen added significant rushing yards himself. The team’s offensive line provided solid protection, allowing Allen to execute plays smoothly.
ESPN’s NFL Analysis Identifies Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Corps as the Team’s Main Problem
There’s no question that the Bills’ offense early this season has been stellar. According to ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg, though, the team’s wide receivers may need some more work to do.
Biggest issue on offense: Developing the wide receiver room
Finding an issue with the Bills’ offense through the first three weeks of the season is simply nitpicking, as this group has shown it can have success in a variety of ways and has been one of the best offenses in the NFL. But there are steps forward this wide receiver group can continue to take.
Outside of Khalil Shakir — who has caught all 14 of his targets — another dependable and consistent wide receiver hasn’t yet emerged. One to watch is rookie Keon Coleman, who was benched for the first quarter vs. the Jaguars on Monday for tardiness but then caught a touchdown pass. There’s also room for Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins to grow their roles. How this room continues to develop will be worth watching.
Apart from the team’s concern about their wide receivers, coaching has also played a vital role in this victory, with Sean McDermott ensuring the Bills stayed sharp despite a long break between games. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s creative play-calling continued to pay dividends, as the Buffalo leads the league in scoring.
With this victory, the Bills remain undefeated and look poised for their upcoming matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, aiming to build on this momentum. By then, everyone will see how the team’s wide receivers will perform on the court.
