Former Super Bowl champion Mack Hollins hasn’t worn a pair of shoes off the field for quite some time now. Just recently, though, the Buffalo Bills’ new wide receiver shared how he has modified that personal policy of his.
Hollins has adopted an unconventional training regimen that sets him apart from his peers – he prefers to not wear shoes. The Bills star believed that going barefoot helps him maintain exceptional flexibility and dexterity, which he credits as key factors in his success on the field.
The 29-year-old player’s shoeless training journey began during a trip to Australia, where he met a group of men who specialized in holistic grounding exercises. Inspired by their approach, The wide receiver has been training without shoes for the past five to six years, much to the bewilderment of those around him.
His unorthodox method has drawn both fascination and criticism from those who question the cleanliness and safety of his barefoot practices. However, the wide receiver remains unfazed, arguing that feet are actually cleaner than shoes, which are rarely washed.
Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Mack Hollins Shares Story Why He Doesn’t Wear Shoes Off the Field
Just recently, Hollins appeared in an episode of Green Light with Chris Long, a production of Yote House Media, and talked about several topics. In a video posted by the podcast’s official YouTube account, the Bills star shed more light on his decision to go barefoot.
Chris: “Why no shoes? Give me the science behind that?
Mack: “This off season I approached a little bit differently. OTAs, I had a chef cooking all good things… I was eating better. I took care of myself more than I ever have in our little month and a half break. I did some N.A.D. stuff, did some IVs, a bunch of vitamins and stuff like that. So that was also another plus of taking care of my body. I traveled a lot, so I was in Jupiter, Cabo, LA, Tahoe, Nashville. Again, just trying to be strict on what I’m eating and what I’m putting in my body. I don’t know if I should say this, but there’s a secret trick that I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I’m just throwing in a few Zyns..Citrus [flavor] is pretty dang good.”
Earlier this year, Bills have signed Hollins to a contract in free agency. He is projected to provide Buffalo passing attack with a deep-threat option and bolsters their receiving corps after the departure of Gabe Davis.
Hollins’ commitment to his unique training approach has been a constant throughout his NFL career, which began in 2017 and included a stint with the Super Bowl-winning Eagles team. As he continues to navigate the league, his dedication to his unconventional methods serves as a testament to his unwavering belief in the benefits of going barefoot.
