The Buffalo Bills have fallen to 3-2 following their 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon. The offense was particularly pitiful, putting up just 276 total yards. But much of the talk during and after the game was not really about how poorly the offense played, but rather how the Bills chose to handle a scary situation involving their quarterback, Josh Allen.
Late in the game, Allen scrambled and threw a pass away as he was being taken to the ground. Once the ball was out of his hand, his head hit the ground and, quite literally, bounced. He appeared to lose consciousness on the play:
Josh Allen slamming his head on the turf & getting knocked out, only to somehow get cleared & come right back in the game plays later is absolutely insane…
Enough with the pretending to care about player safety. It’s all a load of BS.

According to Allen himself, the team gave him smelling salts and sent him back into the game. This decision was met with a lot of criticism, especially by a popular sports doctor on social media.
The Buffalo Bills Are Accused of Endangering Josh Allen’s Life After Apparent Head Injury
After the Bills sent Allen back into the game, popular sports doctor Jesee Morse posted the following:
Josh Allen appears to have SUFFERED A CONCUSSION, they gave him SMELLING SALTS then allowed him to return to the game.
This should be a HUGE PENALTY and VERY risky for Josh Allen’s health.
He could have suffered another concussion which could have caused second impact… https://t.co/1d7Tl4WCCO

“Josh Allen appears to have SUFFERED A CONCUSSION, they gave him SMELLING SALTS then allowed him to return to the game. This should be a HUGE PENALTY and VERY risky for Josh Allen’s health. He could have suffered another concussion which could have caused second impact syndrome, which can be deadly.”
As one can see from Morse’s post, Allen was put at risk of suffering another head injury, which could have killed him.
After the game, though, Allen himself denied that he suffered a head injury and that the smelling salts were to help him focus through the pain he had as a result of an ankle injury.
“Big shot to the chest and I rolled my ankle there,” Allen said. “They flagged me for hitting my head, but felt good enough to go back in the game.”
To be frank, no one is buying that.
The NFL Needs to Investigate the Buffalo Bills’ Handling of Josh Allen
There is no doubt that the NFL has gotten better about reporting, monitoring, and treating concussions over the past several years. However, what happened to Allen is absolutely inexcusable.
Fans have already seen Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa be put on injured reserve after he suffered a concussion, against this very Bills team, earlier in the year.
Two years ago, Tagovailoa suffered two massive concussions in close proximity and missed substantial time.
Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, who played when the NFL did not really care about concussions, recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease as a result of the multiple head injuries he suffered during his career.
While Allen says he did not hurt his head, it was clear from the video that he is not telling the truth.
Something needs to be done.
