A lot of people didn’t expect the Buffalo Bills to get a win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. This led to the team getting a boost in the last NFL Power Rankings ahead of Week 3 in the league.
In a decisive matchup, the Bills defeated the Dolphins with a score of 31-10, improving their record to 2-0 while the latter fell to 1-1. The game showcased the resilience of the Bills’ defense, which, despite missing key players like Taron Johnson and Matt Milano, managed to intercept Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa three times. The defense’s ability to stop critical fourth-down attempts was pivotal in maintaining control over the game.
James Cook emerged as a standout performer for the Bills, scoring three touchdowns in the first half alone, significantly contributing to their early 24-7 lead. His impressive performance included both rushing and receiving plays, highlighting his versatility and effectiveness on the field.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins struggled offensively, particularly after Tagovailoa left the game with a concussion late in the third quarter. His performance prior to the injury was lackluster, marked by three interceptions, including a pick-six that extended the Bills’ lead.
Buffalo’s offensive line played a crucial role in facilitating Cook’s success, allowing quarterback Josh Allen to manage the game efficiently. Allen, while dealing with a hand injury, completed 13 of 19 passes for 139 yards, without turning the ball over.
Buffalo Bills Rise Up in NFL Power Rankings After Week 2 Win Against Miami Dolphins
The Bills’ big win over Miami helped them rise up in the rankings ahead of Week 3. This can be seen in Alaina Getzenberg’s latest NFL analysis for ESPN.
“This could go to a variety of players with the Bills’ defense off to such an injured start. Lewis is one player on this roster who is asked to step up in so many ways, currently as the starting nickel while Taron Johnson deals with a forearm injury.
The former undrafted free agent out of the University at Buffalo is also a backup at safety and a special teams player. He tied for the team high in tackles (10) against the Dolphins and continuing to play well while Johnson misses time will be important,” Getzenberg wrote.
In their Week 2 victory over the Dolphins, the Bills demonstrated improved discipline, committing only one penalty. Josh Allen’s role shifted as the team emphasized the running game, showcasing James Cook’s standout performance with three touchdowns.
Despite injuries to key players, Buffalo’s defense stepped up, highlighting the depth and resilience of the roster early in the season. If all goes well, they can rise further in the rankings in the coming weeks.
