Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills enter the 2024 NFL season as the four-time defending AFC East champions, however, the path to a fifth consecutive championship may be more daunting than ever.
Not only will the Bills be breaking in a new wide receiving corps featuring rookie Keon Coleman at the top of the depth chart after Stefon Diggs’ and Gabe Davis’ departures this offseason. But, the New York Jets just might have the pieces to make a lengthy postseason run if Aaron Rodgers can stay healthy and return to form.
Then, there’s the Miami Dolphins who boast one of the most explosive offenses in the sport, around a burgeoning young quarterback and buttressed by a potentially dominant and disruptive pass-rusher.
Former NFL GM Bullish on Miami Dolphins Over Buffalo Bills
As the 2024 regular season looms, former NFL general manager Jeff Diamond made his picks for each division winner, including the Miami Dolphins ending the Bills’ streak.
“Josh Allen is a top-five quarterback when he doesn’t turn the ball over,” Diamond writes for The 33rd Team. “But, the Bills have lost several starters due to salary cap issues, including their starting wide receivers, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.
“The Dolphins are loaded at the offensive skill positions — led by Tyreek Hill — but they need to stay healthy as injuries to edge rushers Jaelen Phillips and Bradley Chubb were a big problem late last season. The Dolphins drafted Chop Robinson to add quality depth at the position. I think Miami has the strongest roster among AFC East teams and will win their first division title since 2008.”
If Diamond’s assertions are correct, and the Dolphins boast the strongest roster in the division, Miami is going to have the chance to make a deep run in the postseason because of how explosive Tagovailoa and the offense have the potential to be.
Legendary former Dolphins offensive lineman Richmond Webb believes there are a couple simple keys for Miami to finally slay the beast that is Buffalo’s reign over the division.
“The one thing is, you’ve got to know your opponent,” Webb said, during a recent appearance on my Between The Hashmarks Podcast. “I think the thing is Josh Allen is such, he’s a playmaker, if you watch him when the game is on the line, he delivers.
“You’ve got to be able to contain a guy like that, because not only does he have a rocket for an arm, but he can hurt you with his legs and his running ability.”
