The Buffalo Bills are in the middle of their second week of training camp with many starting positions up for grabs. Highlighting one of the biggest and most important competitions on defense is the number two outside cornerback position alongside Christian Benford. The two leading candidates include Tre’Davious White and their first-round pick, with Dane Jackson and a sixth-round pick also in the mix.
Unfortunately, one of their main contenders went down with an injury yesterday.
Buffalo Bills’ first-round pick suffered a non-contact injury

Maxwell Hairston suffered a concerning non-contact knee injury on Tuesday’s practice session during a pass rush drill. He limped off the field and went into the locker room for further examination. Hairston underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, as fans held their breath, hoping he did not sustain a season-ending injury.
Buffalo Bills’ rookie avoided major injury, set to miss 3 weeks

According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, tests determined that Maxwell Hairston had suffered an LCL sprain, while his ACL remained intact. As a result, the first-round pick is expected to miss an extended period and could return to training camp in three weeks. The good news is that the injury is not expected to sideline Hairston for the start of the regular season, but this may sway the current cornerback competition against his favor.
#Bills first-round CB Maxwell Hairston, who left practice with a knee injury yesterday, had tests that revealed his ACL to be intact, per me and @MikeGarafolo.

The Buffalo Bills’ 2x-Pro Bowler is now the front-runner

Tre’Davious White is the clear-cut front-runner for the number two cornerback position with Maxwell Hairston sidelined. The former first-round pick and two-time Pro Bowler has already taken the early lead, receiving first-team reps with the starting defense to open training camp. White looks to revive his career after battling injuries from 2021 to 2023, and struggling and bouncing around with the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens in 2024.
