It’s already the third week of May, but James Cook and the Buffalo Bills have yet to meet eye to eye on the negotiation table.
Cook is looking to hit pay dirt with a huge extension deal, one that is reportedly worth around $15 million per year on average. He also appears to be on a soft holdout, as he did not attend the early portion of the Bills’ workouts, though, it’s worth noting that those are voluntary.
While it’s clear that the running back wants a big extension, Cook isn’t necessarily out there making loud statements about his desire.
“I necessarily don’t want to talk about it right now, because it’s like, it’s something I want to hold in to myself,” Cook told PokerNews (h/t Bobby Kownack of the NFL Network). “Just let the business take care of the business.”

The Bills had one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL in the 2024 campaign in large part because of the backfield tandem of superstar Josh Allen and Cook.
The former Georgia Bulldogs running back had 1,009 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 207 carries for the Bills, who were ninth in the league with 136.7 yards on the ground per game and second overall with 1.9 rushing touchdowns per contest.
Added Cook:
“However it works out, it works out,” Cook said when asked if he anticipates a deal on the horizon. “I mean, I just make sure the business is a business, and just do whatever I can to always be there for my teammates, and however it works out, it works out. And then we go play football.”
