Gabe Davis garnered interest from several wide-receiver-needy teams throughout the offseason. The Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and New Orleans Saints all inquired about him and hosted the veteran receiver for multiple visits. Ultimately, the Buffalo Bills reunited with Davis and signed him to the practice squad on Tuesday.
A potential reason why those teams backed off from him could be attributed to his injury last season.
Buffalo Bills’ former 4th-round pick is recovering from a season-ending injury

Gabe Davis sustained a season-ending meniscus tear that required a full repair in Week 11 as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, typically carrying a recovery time of six to twelve months. Since the injury occurred late in the season, it’s highly unlikely he will be ready for the start of the season, resulting in teams backing off. Because of this, the Bills may soon place Davis on injured reserve until he recovers.

The Buffalo Bills are placing veteran WR on IR

During Wednesday’s press conference, Sean McDermott provided an injury update on Gabe Davis, as reported by Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News. The Bills are expected to soon place the veteran receiver on the practice squad injured reserve, as he continues to recover from a torn meniscus. Once Davis recovers, McDermott expects the former fourth-round pick to contribute on offense down the road.
Sean McDermott confirms that Gabe Davis will be back to practice squad (injured) at some point soon:
“He’s still dealing with the injury… I think the vision here is… that he can maybe help us on the field. That’s down the road.”More on Davis: https://t.co/TmV0inA06K
