The Buffalo Bills will have a different-looking wide receiver room entering the 2024 season. A lot of it has to do with trading away Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans and drafting rookie Keon Coleman from the Florida State Seminoles. Coleman was a second-round selection (33rd overall pick) in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Some thought that Coleman could have been a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Keon Coleman last season with the Florida State Seminoles played in 12 games as a junior. He caught 50 passes for 658 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns, along with averaging 13.2 yards per catch.
On the Buffalo Bills depth chart this season, Coleman, Khalil Shakir, and Curtis Samuel are projected to be the starting wide receivers. It will be interesting to see how they will do this season. Along with Diggs not being on the team anymore, Gabriel Davis is not on the team either.
Fantasypros.com Writer Nino Lombardi Predicts That Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Keon Coleman Is 1 of 3 Rookies To Avoid This Season
Fantasypros.com fantasy football writer Nino Lombardi wrote about three rookies who fantasy football owners should try and avoid for the 2024 season. One of those three rookies who should be avoided according to him is Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman. Lombardi said:
“The Bills drafted Keon Coleman 33rd overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. On the surface, Coleman offers a compelling combination of draft capital and potential volume. This is a Bills offense that let go of its two primary pass-catchers in Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. Many believe Coleman will be inheriting much of the fantasy production left behind by these two players.
That said, Coleman’s statistical profile leaves much to be desired. His final season at Florida State was wildly disappointing. Per Pro Football Focus (PFF), he ranked 109th in receiving grade and 144th in yards per route run among FBS WRs with at least 50 targets. Coleman never managed to eclipse a PFF receiving grade of 76.0 across his collegiate career.
While the current Bills pass-catching corps lacks household names, there are several intriguing players to consider. Dalton Kincaid, Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel are all more likely to see consistent work in this offense. For one, Kincaid is an emerging star at the TE position. His catch rate of 81.1% was the third-highest amongst TEs with at least 50 targets. Khalil Shakir also came into his own in the latter half of the 2023 season. He averaged 1.81 yards per route run and 7.3 yards after the catch per reception, per PFF. Lastly, Curtis Samuel will be reunited with offensive coordinator Joe Brady this upcoming season. He enjoyed some of his best football with Brady, most notably the 2020 season during which he eclipsed 1,000 scrimmage yards with the Panthers.”
Another player who could see snaps for the Bills at wide receiver this season is Marquez Valdes-Scantling. He has played for the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs in the past. Valdes-Scantling is projected to be a backup wide receiver on the Bills roster.
Keon Coleman could very well get off to a slow start this season. However, if Coleman gets hot, he could be someone that Josh Allen will target later in the season, especially in December. He will not be a bust, but Keon Coleman could be someone who will work his way into this offense.
