According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, the Buffalo Bills are signing fan-favorite quarterback Ben DiNucci to round out their quarterback room as they head into the 2024 season.
Since taking the NFL world by storm for a short time in 2020 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys, DiNucci has played for the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons and the Denver Broncos.
New Buffalo Bills QB Ben DiNucci hasn’t recorded a stat since 2020
Since playing in three games and starting in one for the Cowboys in 2020 after Dak Prescott went down, DiNucci has failed to record an NFL stat.
While he was out of the NFL for a short period, he dominated the XFL as the signal caller for the Seattle Sea Dragons. With the Sea Dragons, DiNucci found himself in the playoffs after leading the team to a 7-3 record.
DiNucci dominated in the XFL, leading the league in passing yards and completions with 2,671 yards in the air and 272 completions. He was second in the XFL in passing touchdowns with 20. DiNucci failed to win a playoff game with Seattle in the XFL, but he did put up just under 300 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.
Ben DiNucci took the NFL world by storm when he played for the Cowboys
The 2020 seventh-round pick made by the Cowboys didn’t result in much on the field, yet it still caused the Cowboys to be the center of attention for a short time.
DiNucci’s distinctly Italian last name, unknown status and poor play on the field resulted in him becoming a figure that was the focus of many NFL fans. DiNucci ended up throwing for 219 yards on a 53.5% completion rate with no touchdowns during his entire Dallas career, yet he nearly became a household name among NFL fans.
DiNucci was not afraid to admit the NFL was difficult. He did just that in a USA Today article when he was describing his loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
“This NFL thing, it’s hard. These teams are good, it’s a battle every single week and you’re playing a divisional game. When you cross the 50-yard line, get into the red zone, you’ve got to get seven instead of three.”
DiNucci left such an imprint on the NFL in the three games in which he played that there is a plethora of fans voicing their opinion on his signing four years later, something not typical of a depth piece that may not even make the 53-man roster.
