“Much-Needed Defensive Reinforcement”: Buccaneers Predicted to Land All-Pro Linebacker in Free Agency

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are being linked to Devin Lloyd as the 2026 NFL offseason approaches, with analysts saying the All‑Pro linebacker would provide a much‑needed boost to a struggling front seven. Lloyd’s combination of coverage ability, run defense and occasional pass rush makes him an attractive target for a team seeking immediate upgrades.

Lloyd broke out with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025, finishing among the position leaders in advanced metrics and earning All‑Pro recognition for his all‑around play. At 6‑3 and roughly 235 pounds, he pairs athleticism with instincts, producing turnovers and pressures while holding up in base run fits.

Tampa Bay’s inside linebacker room is at a crossroads with a veteran anchor nearing the end of his run and limited young answers on the roster. Adding Lloyd would address several issues at once: replacing declining production, shoring up coverage against tight ends and running backs, and adding a versatile defender who can move in subpackages.

Cap considerations will dominate the conversation. Projections place Lloyd’s market in the top tier for linebackers, which would force the Buccaneers to prioritize the signing and manage their payroll carefully. If the Buccaneers view the move as a one‑player swing capable of altering the defense’s trajectory, it could be willing to craft a contract that balances guarantees with roster flexibility.

NFL Analysis Projects Tampa Bay Buccaneers Landing Devin Lloyd in Free Agency

Tampa Bay is the predicted landing spot for Lloyd in free agency this year. This is detailed more in an analysis by Alex Kay for Bleacher Report.

Staying in Florida could be the best move for Lloyd, moving to the southwest to join the Bucs as a much-needed defensive reinforcement.

Tampa’s linebacking corps already struggled in 2025 and could get even worse if longtime star Lavonte David elects to retire after 14 years with the program. Lloyd would make for an excellent replacement due to his strong coverage capabilities and solid all-around talents.

While Lloyd still must prove he can perform at a high level consistently following some polarizing early seasons, he appears to have found his footing this past year and should be a great addition to a Buccaneers squad that sorely needs his skill set.

From a schematic standpoint, Lloyd fits Todd Bowles’ preference for hybrid linebackers who can play downhill and cover in space. His ability to make plays in multiple phases promises immediate returns in a defense that struggled to create consistent pressure and turnovers throughout the previous season.

Landing Lloyd would send a clear message that Tampa Bay intends to compete in the short term rather than rebuild gradually. The signing would be one of the most consequential defensive additions available and could reshape the Bucs’ outlook entering the 2026 campaign.

If the Buccaneers can find a way to clear cap room and structure a deal that suits both sides, Lloyd would be a logical and impactful target to anchor their linebacker corps. The offseason will reveal whether Tampa Bay moves decisively to secure the veteran defender.
