The Michigan Wolverines are 5-3 this year in college football. Michigan has been in the news lately for college football recruiting. Earlier this week, some reports dropped about potentially pursuing quarterback Bryce Underwood, who already committed to the LSU Tigers for the 2025 season.

One quarterback who was already committed to Michigan was quarterback Carter Smith. Smith will be graduating high school in 2025.
4-Star Quarterback Carter Smith De-Commits From the Michigan Wolverines

On Wednesday, on3.com writer Keegan Pope reported that Smith was de-commiting from the program. Some of the schools that are looking at him right now are the Clemson Tigers, the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Just last week, Carter Smith spoke to TheWolverine.com and said:
“I’m locked in. I’m not going anywhere. There is not a better place on the planet. There isn’t much going on in my life for anyone wondering (laughs). I’m solid because of the quality of people there. It still feels so right.”
This feels like a major letdown for the Wolverines program. He had plans to potentially enroll early. With Underwood potentially looking to flip from LSU to Michigan, this felt like the perfect time for Carter Smith to de-commit and look elsewhere.

Regardless of Underwood, he was going to be sitting behind Jayden Davis and Brady Hart anyway. He just read the writing on the wall.

Not worried at all, we have Jayden Davis from last year’s class and Brady Hart in 2026. Carter knows he won’t start. And we are throwing money at Underwood, if it works Underwood will start for 3 years.

There are a lot of Wolverines fans who think they are going to land Bryce Underwood. It would be a major letdown for Michigan Wolverines fans if they were not to get him. Carter Smith going to another program could be good for his long-term future.
