Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was taken into custody Saturday in Fort Lauderdale on a misdemeanor charge of battery/domestic violence. Both the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and Broward County records confirmed the arrest. CBS Columbus affiliate WBNS reported that Judkins faces one count of “touch or strike/battery/domestic violence.”
According to the report, the charge is classified as a first-degree misdemeanor under Florida law. Jail records also show that Judkins is being held without bond. He’s scheduled to make his first court appearance Sunday morning, per ESPN Browns reporter Daniel Oyefusi.

The Browns have been made aware of Judkins’ arrest, according to Daniel Oyefusi. A team spokesperson said the organization is “aware and gathering more details” regarding the situation.
Browns correspondent Cory Kinnan later reported that Judkins has been released from jail after posting a $2,500 bond.
Quinshon Judkins future with the Browns uncertain

The Browns selected Judkins on Day 2 of the April draft, passing on Shedeur Sanders at the time to make the pick. Sanders eventually went in the fifth round. Judkins impressed general manager Andrew Berry during the pre-draft process, who believed the rookie’s playing style was a natural fit for Cleveland’s offense.
Andrew Berry noted that running backs coach Duce Staley was “extremely excited” when the Browns brought in Judkins. The rookie boosted his draft stock by racking up 1,060 yards and 14 touchdowns for national champion Ohio State, becoming one of just two Buckeyes to top 1,000 yards on the ground. On May 26, Judkins said he’s determined to help reshape the Browns’ identity and bring a winning mentality to Cleveland after capturing a title just down the road in Columbus.

Browns rookies are scheduled to report to training camp alongside the quarterbacks on Friday, July 18. But with his rookie deal still unsigned, Judkins is unlikely to arrive on time—especially in the wake of his recent arrest. The incident could also complicate contract talks moving forward.
With quarterbacks and rookies set to report Friday, Judkins faces two clear obstacles to being there—an unsigned contract and his recent arrest. As the situation unfolds, fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson could seize the moment and make the most of the opportunity in front of him.
