Browns Host Two Quarterbacks for a Workout

With Deshaun Watson facing a suspension, Browns’ quarterbacks are in a bad situation. So, in an effort to fix this situation a little bit, the Browns are hosting Josh Rosen and AJ McCarron for a workout.

The Cleveland Browns are working out quarterbacks this week, including veterans A.J. McCarron and Josh Rosen, per sources. Cleveland looking to go to training camp with four quarterbacks, with Jacoby Brissett to be the QB1 depending what happens with Deshaun Watson's status.

This is an obvious need that the Browns need to fill especially with an unproven guy like Joshua Dobbs on the bench. So, what could either Josh Rosen or AJ McCarron provide for the Browns?

    Josh Rosen

Rosen can be an alright backup for Brissett. Rosen hasn’t done anything particularly great in his career, but his best year would probably be in his rookie year.

The 10th overall pick in 2018 threw for 2,278 yards on a 55.2 completion percentage in 14 games. Along with that, he threw 11 touchdowns on 14 interceptions. He also had a 3-10 record in the games he started.

It’s definitely not anything great, but he should work for the Browns if they want a backup quarterback for Brissett.

Just like Josh Rosen, AJ McCarron should work as a backup QB for the Browns. And also just like Josh Rosen, AJ McCarron also hasn’t done anything particularly great in his career.

In fact, McCarron has only played 17 games in his five-year career and he’s only started in four games. In those 17 games he has played, McCarron has thrown for 1,173 yards on a 62.6 passing percentage. He has also tacked on six touchdowns and has three interceptions with that.

A problem with McCarron is that he is pretty injury prone. Just last year, McCarron suffered a season-ending ACL injury.

#Falcons QB AJ McCarron suffered a torn ACL in last night's preseason game vs. Miami, as @DOrlandoAJC said. He had his MRI and is out for the season. Healthy Atlanta QBs: Matt Ryan and Feleipe Franks.

And that’s not the only injury he has had in his career. In the past, McCarron has had shoulder problems, a wrist sprain, and he’s also broken his thumb. And even in college, McCarron had three ribs come out of place.

So, Who Should the Browns Choose?

There are obvious pros and cons to both of these quarterbacks. McCarron might be a better talent, but the Browns may want to be cautious with his injury history. Both of these quarterbacks would be an alright backup, so we’ll just have to see what the Browns do.
