ESPN has recently spotlighted the Cleveland Browns’ most improved position following the 2025 NFL Draft, and surprisingly, it isn’t the quarterback room that has garnered attention. Instead, the focus is on the running back position, which has seen significant upgrades aimed at revitalizing the team’s offensive strategy.

Cleveland made a concerted effort to enhance its backfield by selecting Dylan Sampson in the fourth round. Known for his explosive playmaking ability, Sampson adds speed and versatility to a unit that struggled last season, averaging just 94.6 rushing yards per game. This addition is seen as a crucial step in bolstering the Browns’ running game, which is vital for balancing their offensive attack.

In addition to Sampson, Cleveland has also brought in Quinshon Judkins, a tough runner who has shown the ability to break tackles and gain yardage after contact. This combination of talent aims to create a more dynamic backfield capable of withstanding the physicality of the AFC North. Analysts believe that these new additions could significantly change the team’s offensive identity and enhance their scoring potential.

While the quarterback position remains a topic of scrutiny, the upgrades in the running back department reflect a strategic shift for the team. The Browns are determined to establish a strong ground game to support their quarterback, whoever that may be. This emphasis on running backs highlights the organization’s commitment to building a more balanced and resilient offense.

As it stands, Cleveland’s running back corp just got an upgrade for the upcoming season. This is detailed more in ESPN’s early power rankings for the upcoming NFL season.

The Browns averaged 94.6 rushing yards per game last season, which ranked 29th and was their lowest mark in five seasons under coach Kevin Stefanski. Cleveland rebuilt its running game in the draft, forming a backfield that is explosive and suited for the physicality of the AFC North. Quinshon Judkins, the 36th pick, is a tough runner who forced 179 missed tackles from 2022 to ’24, the fourth most in the FBS in that span. Dylan Sampson, a fourth-round pick, is a big-play threat who ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash at the combine.

As the season approaches, the effectiveness of this revamped backfield will be closely watched. If Judkins and Sampson can deliver on their potential, they could provide Cleveland with a much-needed edge in a competitive division. The success of their running game will be crucial in setting the tone for the entire offense.

Cleveland’s commitment to improving their running back position is a promising development as they look to enhance their overall performance in 2025. With new talent in the backfield, the team aims to redefine its offensive dynamics and make a serious push for success in the upcoming season.
