“Both Of Them?” Broncos See 2 Starters Receive Massive Punishment 1 Day Before Cowboys Matchup

In the aftermath of their dramatic 33-32 comeback win over the New York Giants, the Broncos are facing more than just jubilation — the league handed down substantial fines to two defensive players, bringing attention to discipline amid the thrill of victory.

The First Of The Broncos’ Fines: Justin Strand

Justin Strnad has been fined $15,486 for making contact with referee Brad Allen during the post-game celebration.   The incident occurred after kicker Wil Lutz’s 39-yard game-winning field goal, when emotions ran high and Strnad’s post-game interaction crossed a line, according to league sources.

Although physical contact with an official typically carries a significant penalty, Strnad avoided suspension — a fact noted by league analysts as somewhat unusual.

Head coach Sean Payton declined to comment on the fine, saying simply that his opinion “doesn’t matter.”

    Riley Moss’ Fine

Cornerback Riley Moss was fined $8,253 for an unnecessary-roughness facemask penalty incurred early in the third quarter of the same game. Denver Gazette+1 The incident, while separate from Strnad’s, adds to concerns about discipline for the Broncos’ defense, which has been lauded for its performance but flagged for penalties. SI

Though the amounts might seem modest relative to NFL salaries, the timing and optics are significant:

    • The game itself was a statement win for Denver, mounting a massive comeback — yet the post-game conduct has dampened some of that moment.
    • The two fines mark the first announced by the NFL this season for Broncos players.
    • Discipline issues, especially involving contact with officials or avoidable penalties like a facemask, can impact team locker room.
    • With the Broncos off to a great start and aiming for playoff contention, managing emotions and avoiding infractions becomes even more important.

    What’s Next

Denver will need to refocus as they prepare for the upcoming Week 8 clash against the Dallas Cowboys. Strnad will continue in a larger role given teammate Dre Greenlaw’s suspension, making his conduct and composure essential.   Moss likewise will be under closer scrutiny to channel his aggressive coverage — without crossing the line into penalties.
