His career’s just starting, but Brock Purdy has come a long way.
From being told by Nick Saban that he won’t be guaranteed playing time in Alabama to headlining the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl LVIII, his story is one Hollywood writers wish they would have written themselves.
As he prepares for the biggest football game of his life, he confidently tells the media that he will always back himself against anyone.
Brock Purdy understands his story is easy to overlook
Compared to the prototypical quarterback that gets heavily recruited by Power 5 schools, Brock Purdy will not instantly stand out. He has an average frame, average speed, and an equally average arm. His physical tools are one of the primary reasons why he wasn’t so heavily recruited coming out of Arizona.
However, he understands that and only uses it as fuel to drive him further, as reported by the Associated Press:
”People can overlook you or may not think you’re the biggest, the fastest, the strongest,” Purdy said. ”But if you believe in yourself and you think that you have what it takes and you truly do believe that and you don’t give up on it, then you can achieve it.”
He also thanked the Niners for continuing to back him up as he came in for Jimmy Garoppolo and as he recovered from the UCL injury he suffered in last year’s NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles:
”They’ve believed in me since I’ve stepped in since last year,” Purdy said. ”Throughout the year I feel like I’ve grown and we’ve all grown together, so definitely blessed to have these guys in the locker room with me and they’ve definitely had my back through the good and the bad. We’ve been through some stuff this year and it hasn’t all been pretty.”
He repaid the team handsomely with a stellar regular-season performance that had him in the MVP conversation (4280 passing yards, 31 passing TDs, 69.4% pass completion113.0 QB rating).
Both fans of the Niners and the Chiefs can count on the 24-year-old to back himself against the best quarterback in the league.
