Brock Purdy, starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, made a recent appearance on the ‘Rich Eisen Show’ where he recalled the things that went down while he was negotiating his contract extension with the team. Purdy, after joining the team back in 2022, signed a whopping extension with the team over the offseason for a sum of $265 million.

Purdy narrated that his head coach, Kyle Shanahan, managed to have a tete-a-tete chat with him before wheels were officially in motion, giving the player his assurance that he always has his support. The young quarterback related that it was this assurance from Shanahan was music to his ears, especially since he was bargaining for a lot more money than he was previously paid.
“Kyle (Shanahan) sat me down and we just talked. He said ‘there’s gonna be this whole process within the negotiations, but just so you hear it from me before it starts, I believe in you and I have since you got here. Since you’ve been the guy there’s been nothing but great things. We’ve grown together and I want to continue this ride together’… He explained that I’m his guy and that we need to get this done. I appreciated that being the starting quarterback and hearing that from your head coach.” San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy said on the ‘Rich Eisen’ show.

Brock Purdy will be eager to do plenty more for the San Francisco 49ers in the upcoming season, especially after scoring such a juicy contract extension. Purdy and 49ers will soon kick off their 2025 campaign with a face-off against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
Brock Purdy Responds To Steve Young’s Criticisms
In the same interview, Brock Purdy was asked about what he thought of former NFL quarterback Steve Young’s criticisms. Young previously claimed that Purdy, as a quarterback, needs to use his legs more often on the field. However, Purdy does not seem too bothered and replied with class.
“I’ve answered this before and I get what he’s saying, I totally do. I think for me, playing quarterback, I’m a point guard. I like to dish it out to the guys that are open, move the ball, and get our offense to be a machine and move it forward, and do my job and do it well.” Brock Purdy said.

Purdy also simply stated that he is definitely not a ‘dual-threat’ guy, but is quite happy with the way he performs on the field. After being selected in the last round of his draft process, Purdy quickly rose up in the ranks to become the fantastic QB1 he is now.
